Bio
Janet Quinonez is a queer and sober Mexican-American screenwriter and comedic performer from Austin, Texas. Legend has it she was conceived at the Longhorn Drive-In during a screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. That explains a lot. Janet inherited a strong work ethic from her parents and worked at the family’s kitchen countertop business—until she was fired for botching the tax return. (In her defense, she was only 13.) Over the years, she’s held just about every job imaginable: Christmas bow-maker, bank machine operator, warehouse clerk, and corporate auditor, to name a few. Her family moved constantly, and she’s forever grateful they landed in Atlanta during her high school years, where she found her queer community and was saved by drag shows, John Waters, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Themes in her writing include sobriety, family (both chosen and inherited), misfits, second acts, and second chances. When she’s not writing, you can find her working with Young Storytellers, volunteering at the LA LGBT Center, or producing a weekly comedy show at the Elysian Theater in Los Angeles.
Janet is a 2024 mentee in the Pre-Rainbow Pages mentorship program and a 2025 Alum of the National Hispanic Media Coalition's (NHMC) Series Scriptwriter Program.
